Bidspirit auction | Antique Art Deco Beaded Sautoir
Antique Art Deco Beaded Sautoir Necklace - This antique sautoir necklace is constructed from woven glass seed beads in a flapper-style design. The necklace features a continuous collar loop that leads to a rectangular central drop finished with a beaded fringe. The beadwork is executed in a metallic gold-tone palette, accented with light turquoise blue borders along the edges of the collar and the drop. The base of the rectangular section is highlighted by a horizontal row of opaque pink beads. The fringe consists of multiple strands of gold-tone seed beads, each terminating in a single pink bead. The piece is created using a loom-woven or square stitch technique, providing a flat and flexible structure. There are no visible hallmarks, maker marks, or clasps, as the necklace is designed to be worn over the head. Length: 14.5 inches. The necklace is in fair to good antique condition. There is a loose, untucked structural thread visible on the left side of the rectangular drop where the fringe strands are attached (photo 2). The loom-woven collar shows some irregular waving and minor misalignment of beads along the turquoise border, consistent with the age and handmade nature of the piece (photo 3). The fringe strands are largely intact, although some terminal pink beads hang at slightly irregular lengths (photo 1).
