Art Deco Reverse Carved Apple Juice Bakelite Dress Clip - An Art Deco period dress clip crafted from translucent amber-colored phenolic resin, commonly known as apple juice Bakelite. The rectangular clip features a stylized vertical sprig or wheat stalk motif that has been both surface and reverse carved into the resin. The central panel is flanked by two vertical bands of horizontal ribbed or stepped geometric carving. The piece is finished with beveled edges. The reverse is fitted with a hinged base metal alligator-style clip mechanism featuring a spiked grip. There are no maker's marks, signatures, or metal hallmarks visible on the resin or the metal components. Height: 1 5/8 inches Width: 1 3/8 inches Thickness: 3/8 of an inch. This antique item is in good vintage condition. The resin displays minor surface scratches and internal crazing consistent with age and material (photo 1). The metal clip mechanism exhibits oxidation and wear to the plating but remains functional (photo 2). There are no significant chips or cracks visible in the resin.
