Antique Sterling Silver Vermeil and Amethyst Glass Festoon Necklace - This antique festoon necklace is crafted in sterling silver with a gold wash, also known as vermeil. The design features four faceted oval-cut purple gemstones, likely amethyst-colored glass pastes, set within ornate openwork scroll settings. The necklace is composed of two side stations and a central pendant with an additional suspended drop. The chain is an antique curb link style punctuated by decorative openwork cylindrical spacers and scrollwork connectors. The reverse side of each gemstone setting reveals a distinctive decorative motif consisting of a stylized face or mask surrounded by a border of dots and scrolls. The necklace is secured with a standard spring ring clasp. While no written hallmarks or maker names are legible on the metal, the composition is consistent with late 19th or early 20th-century European craftsmanship. Total Length: 17 inches Pendant Drop: 3 inches. The necklace is in good antique condition with wear appropriate for its age. Significant oxidation and tarnish are visible on the metal, particularly on the reverse of the settings (photo 3) and along the chain (photo 6). The gold vermeil finish shows surface wear and thinning in several areas. All gemstones are present and securely set, though light surface abrasions consistent with use may be present. The spring ring clasp is functional.
