Antique Foster and Bailey Miniature Cigar Cutter Pocket Knife - This antique folding tool serves a dual purpose as a miniature pocket knife and an integrated cigar cutter. The item features gold-colored metal scales over a brass frame and is equipped with a single folding steel blade. The scales have a contoured shape with a circular aperture designed for cigar trimming. A suspension bail is secured at the end by a pivot pin, suggesting its historical use as a watch chain fob or executive accessory. The metal bail is impressed with characters reading F & B, which is the mark used by the Providence, Rhode Island firm Foster and Bailey. Length: 2 1/8 inches (closed, excluding bail) Circular opening diameter: 3/8 of an inch. This antique item displays an aged appearance consistent with its period. The steel blade shows significant dark oxidation and surface pitting visible across both sides (photo 1, 3). A localized area of reddish oxidation is present near the tip of the blade (photo 2). The gold-colored scales exhibit overall surface scratching and mechanical wear from carry and use (photo 5). The suspension loop remains intact and is clearly stamped with the maker's initials (photo 4). The pivot points and structural components appear secure.
