A Pair of Art Deco Deeply Carved Butterscotch Bakelite Dress Clips - A pair of Art Deco style dress clips featuring deeply hand-carved decorative bodies of butterscotch-colored phenolic resin, commonly known as Bakelite. The design consists of a stylized foliate motif with deep vertical and diagonal grooves and scrolled scrollwork at the top. The clips are constructed with base metal mechanisms attached to the resin bodies by two rivets. On the interior of the metal mechanism, the brand name HETL is struck in uppercase letters within quotation marks. Below this name, a second line of text is impressed reading REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. The reverse of the resin bodies is flat and unadorned. Length: 2 1/4 inches Width: 1 1/4 inches. These antique items are in good vintage condition. The Bakelite bodies show minor surface scuffing and fine scratches consistent with age and use (photo 1). The metal clip mechanisms exhibit significant oxidation, surface pitting, and dark tarnish across the front and back surfaces (photo 3 and photo 5). Both clip mechanisms remain fully functional.
