Lionel No. 2465 Sunoco Double Dome Tank Car with Original Box - A vintage O gauge model railroad tank car featuring a double dome design. The tank body is constructed of silver-painted plastic, mounted on a stamped black metal chassis. The piece is equipped with two die-cast metal trucks and operating knuckle couplers. The livery consists of applied decals including a yellow and black Sunoco diamond logo with a red arrow. Technical data blocks are printed on the sides, including a block of text reading U. S. SAFETY APPLIANCE STANDARD, A. R. A. SPEC. III A. C. & F. CO. 5-23, and referencing Sun Oil Co. and Marcus Hook PA. The side of the tank is marked with a circular L logo and the text BUILT BY LIONEL. The underside of the black metal frame is stamped with the number 2465 in silver ink. The item is accompanied by its original cardboard box, which features a classic orange and blue color scheme. One end flap is printed with No. 2465 TANK CAR LIONEL and the number 2465 is printed on the side. , The silver paint on the plastic tank shows light surface dirt and age-related toning, and the Sunoco and technical data decals have significant yellowing (photo 3). The black metal frame exhibits scattered paint loss and areas of surface rust, particularly along the lower edges and near the truck mounting points (photo 4). Oxidation and light surface rust are visible on the metal axles and wheel faces (photo 4). The original cardboard box is in poor condition with heavy wear, including several tears, creasing, crushed corners, and structural weakness at the end flaps (photo 1 and 2).
