A Collection of Marx O-Gauge Steam Locomotive and Rolling Stock - A collection of model train components manufactured by Louis Marx and Co. The group features a die-cast steam locomotive, a tender, a boxcar, and a caboose. The locomotive is a die-cast 0-4-0 configuration with visible internal electric motor components, metal drive rods, and metal wheels. The side of the cab is marked with the number 1666. The front of the boiler features a circular logo containing a star shape with the letters M, A, and R inside and X below, spelling the name MARX. The rolling stock consists of three lithographed pressed tin cars. The black tender features a raised rectangular panel on the side with the text NEW YORK CENTRAL and a circular logo featuring the Marx star emblem. The brown boxcar is marked PENNSYLVANIA 70311 with a NEW 7-41 date stamp. The right side displays the Pennsylvania Railroad keystone logo, and the sliding door is marked with the number 92558 and a circular Marx logo. The red caboose retains a circular Marx logo on the side despite surface wear. Both the boxcar and caboose have frames stamped MADE IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the underside. All cars are equipped with metal trucks and tab-and-slot style couplers. , The collection is in attic-find condition with significant signs of age and storage wear. All pieces exhibit heavy accumulations of dust, dirt, and cobwebs (photo 1). There is widespread surface oxidation and rust throughout, most notably on the locomotive drive rods (photo 3), the wheels and axles of the tender (photo 8), and the couplers of the boxcar (photo 6). The locomotive is missing its front pilot truck assembly (photo 3). The lithography on the caboose is heavily worn and faded (photo 4). The die-cast body of the engine shows surface pitting and corrosion (photo 3). The mechanical and electrical components are untested and show visible grime and oxidation within the motor housing (photo 9).
