Lionel 2055 O-Gauge Model Steam Locomotive and 2046W Tender - A vintage post-war Lionel Corporation O-gauge model steam locomotive and matching tender. The locomotive features a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement, known as the Hudson type, constructed with a die-cast metal body and driving rods. The tender consists of a synthetic resin body mounted on a die-cast metal chassis. The locomotive is equipped with an internal electric motor, a three-position E-unit for directional control, and a smoke generator. The tender houses an internal whistle mechanism. The locomotive cab is printed on both sides with the number 2055 in white. On the left side of the boiler, there is an embossed rectangular plate reading BUILT BY LIONEL. The underside of the locomotive features a metal plate between the driving wheels that reads IMPORTANT LUBRICATE AS PER INSTRUCTIONS THE LIONEL CORPORATION, N.Y. MADE IN U. S. OF AMERICA. The tender is marked on both sides with the printed white text LIONEL LINES. On the lower right of the tender rear, an embossed rectangular plate reads BUILT BY LIONEL. , The set is in heavily used, unrestored condition. Significant paint loss, chipping, and wear are visible across the die-cast locomotive body, particularly on the cab roof and raised edges (photo 2, photo 5). There is heavy surface oxidation and rust on the metal wheels of both units, as well as on the axles, pickup rollers, E-unit lever, and locomotive domes (photo 6, photo 7). The surfaces of both the locomotive and tender are covered in a thick layer of dust and grime throughout (photo 1, photo 9). The tender is missing the rear steps and ladders on the left side (photo 9). Driving rods and trucks appear intact, but the mechanical and electrical functionality is unverified; internal cleaning and service are required.
