The set includes a desktop controller and a separate AC power pack. The controller is housed in a dark olive green plastic casing featuring the Lionel logo in red, white, and blue. It is equipped with a large rotary speed dial with an integrated pointer, marked from OFF to FULL SPEED along a graduated green, yellow, and red scale. Two square push-buttons are located below the dial; one features a sound wave icon for whistle or horn activation, and the other features a double-ended arrow icon for direction control. The power pack is a black plastic wall-plug style transformer with ventilation slats.
