Atlantic Watch Case Co. Anti-Magnetic 18 Size Pocket Watch Case - An antique pocket watch case constructed of nickel silver or similar silver-toned base metal. The case features a screw-down front bezel with a coin-edged texture and a matching textured case back. The interior of the case retains a circular paper guarantee label printed in red and blue ink. The label features a central logo consisting of a capital letter G surrounded by radiating lightning bolt motifs. Text on the label reads: THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE ACCOMPANYING ANTI-MAGNETIC CASE IS GUARANTEED TO PROTECT THE WATCH AGAINST ALL MAGNETIC AND ELECTRIC INFLUENCES WILL NOT RUST OR DISCOLOR. The bottom of the label is marked PATENTED, DEC. 4TH 1883. JUNE 19TH 1888. and Atlantic Watch Case Co. The case is designed for a stem-wind, stem-set movement and retains its original winding crown, pendant, and bow. A setting pin is visible at the interior 12 o'clock position. The internal surfaces show remnants of gold-colored plating or gilding. This item is the case only; the movement, dial, and hands are missing. Diameter: 2 inches (51 mm). The case is in fair condition for its age, showing significant surface wear, fine scratches, and areas of pitting and oxidation throughout the exterior (photo 3). The interior gilding shows heavy wear and brassing. The glass crystal has a visible chip or flea bite on the outer edge (photo 4). The original paper insert is present and legible, though it exhibits light foxing and a brown stain near the lower patent dates (photo 2). The hinges and mechanical functionality were not tested.
