Lord Elgin 14K Gold Filled Mechanical Wristwatch with Speidel Expansion Band - This Lord Elgin wristwatch features a rectangular 14 karat gold filled case and a manual wind mechanical movement. The off-white textured dial is signed LORD ELGIN below the 12 o'clock position and features a stylized dp logo above the recessed sub-seconds dial at 6 o'clock. The dial is set with applied gold-tone Arabic numerals and dot hour markers. The case back is struck with a rectangular frame containing the characters S and W flanking an ampersand, next to the literal text 14K GOLD FILLED. The interior of the case back is stamped with the number 4618 and a circular mark reading CASED AND TIMED BY ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH CO. SCHWAB AND WUISCHPARD 14K GOLD FILLED, surrounding the number 437804. A hand-scratched jeweler's mark reading R50417X is visible near the case rim. The mechanical movement is engraved ELGIN 626 U-S-A 21 JEWELS 4 ADJS and bears the serial number F400795. The watch is fitted with a gold-tone Speidel expansion bracelet. The interior stainless steel bottom caps are stamped SPEIDEL PAT. 2,689,450. The end pieces attached to the lugs are stamped 10K G.F. TOP CAPS. Width: 22 mm (excluding crown) Length: 38 mm (lug to lug) Overall Length: 3.75 inches (watch head and visible band). The watch is in running condition but requires a new crystal (photo 1). The dial shows significant spotting, discoloration, and loss of finish across the entire surface (photo 1). The 14 karat gold filled case shows moderate surface scratching and minor brassing on the high points of the lugs (photo 5). Significant green verdigris and oxidation are visible in the lug wells, around the case seat, and on the winding stem (photo 6). The expansion band shows surface wear, dirt accumulation between the links, and loss of gold plating on the underside (photos 2 and 4).
