Waltham Swiss Self-Winding Calendar Wristwatch Head - A vintage Swiss-made Waltham automatic wristwatch head. The silver-toned dial features a sunburst finish with applied gold-tone baton hour markers and Arabic numerals at the 12, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. A date aperture is located at the 3 o'clock position. The dial is printed in black text with the maker name WALTHAM, followed by SELF-WINDING, and INCABLOC 17 JEWELS above the 6 o'clock marker. The very bottom of the dial is marked SWISS MADE. The case features a gold-tone base metal bezel and lugs with a screw-down stainless steel case back. The exterior of the case back is circularly engraved with the phrases ST. STEEL BACK, SWISS MADE, WALTHAM, BASE METAL BEZEL, AUTOMATIC, and WATER RESISTANT. The interior of the case back is stamped SWISS MADE, WALTHAM WATCH CO., 7432-84-5, and B 236 C. The gold-tone winding crown is embossed with a block letter W. The internal 17-jewel automatic movement is marked SWISS and the rotor is engraved WALTHAM WATCH CO. SEVENTEEN UNADJUSTED. This watch does not run. Case diameter: 34 mm. The watch shows significant wear consistent with age and use. The acrylic crystal is heavily scratched and exhibits crazing across the entire surface (photo 1). The gold-plated base metal bezel and lugs show substantial brassing, pitting, and plating loss, particularly on the lug tips and sides (photo 3, 6, and 7). The silver sunburst dial shows light spotting and oxidation throughout (photo 2). The stainless steel case back has numerous surface scratches from previous opening attempts and general wear (photo 4). The movement appears complete but is non-functional (photo 8).
