General Electric Model AB30 Art Deco Electric Alarm Clock in Orange Catalin - A mid-century electric alarm clock featuring an Art Deco industrial aesthetic. The fluted, cylindrical case is constructed from molded orange Catalin or Bakelite plastic and is supported by two integral ball feet. A circular dial is set beneath a domed glass crystal, featuring a mottled tan and gold ground with black Arabic numerals and stylized hands. The dial bears a printed monogram logo reading GE and is marked GENERAL ELECTRIC. A small circular power interruption indicator aperture is located below the 12 o'clock position. The reverse features a removable metal backplate stamped with a GE monogram and text reading GENERAL ELECTRIC CLOCK, MODEL AB30, VOLTS 100/125, CYCLES 60, WATTS 2, GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN. MADE IN U.S.A. The interior movement is marked with a yellow stamped number 09. The clock is fitted with an integrated brown two-prong power cord and an alarm function controlled by a pull-knob on the reverse. Height: 4.25 inches. The clock is in a distressed, non-functional state. The plastic case shows significant damage, specifically a series of jagged chips and losses along the rear rim (photo 7). There are surface abrasions and minor scuffs to the body throughout (photo 9). The dial face exhibits heavy spotting, foxing, and discoloration across the entire surface (photo 1). The metal backplate has been detached, and the assembly screws are missing (photo 6). Internal wiring and movement components are exposed and show surface oxidation (photo 8). The power cord is stiffened with age, and the plug shows wear; for safety reasons, the electrical components should be inspected by a professional before any attempt to power the unit.
