American Waltham Watch Co. Gold Filled Hunting Case Pocket Watch - A pocket watch manufactured by the American Waltham Watch Co. featuring a hunting case design. The white enamel dial is signed WALTHAM and features Roman numeral hour markers, a rail track minute scale, and a sub-seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position. The exterior case is decorated with engine-turned guilloche engraving and a foliate-bordered cartouche centered on the front cover. The cartouche is engraved with a stylized monogram that appears to read MHS. Internally, the movement is engraved in cursive with American Waltham Watch Co. and the phrase SAFETY BARREL. A movement serial number is engraved as 8585427. The interior of the dust cover is stamped with a mark reading WARRANTED CRESCENT 20 YEARS above a case serial number 925716. An additional internal case mark consists of the characters G.W.C.CO. above PLANET and a star-and-crescent symbol flanked by the words TRADE MARK, with the serial number 925716 repeated below. The piece is constructed of gold-filled metal and is a manual wind movement. Based on the provided ruler, the case measures approximately 1 5/8 inches in diameter at its widest point. The watch is in used condition; the movement runs but the piece needs a crystal as the glass is missing (photo 2). The gold-filled case shows surface scratches and light wear to the high points of the engraved decoration consistent with age (photo 1, 8, and 9). The enamel dial shows minor chipping and surface discoloration between the 7 and 8 o'clock markers and near the center arbor (photo 2). Mechanical timekeeping accuracy is not tested or guaranteed.
