World War I Era Pocket Watch with Leather Wristlet Conversion Strap - A manual wind pocket watch featuring a World War I era leather trench watch wristlet conversion strap. The watch case is constructed from a base metal alloy with remnants of silver plating. The bezel and side of the case are decorated with an engraved geometric zig-zag pattern. The case back is adorned with an engine-turned sunburst design centered by an engraved stag head in a forest setting. The white enamel dial features black Arabic numeral hour markers and a secondary outer minute track marked in five-unit increments from 5 to 60. The hands are gold-tone ornate filigree; the hour hand is incomplete. On the bow above the crown, there are small stamped characters; the letters NIB are readable, followed by a partially obscured fourth character. The wristlet converter consists of a circular brown leather housing with a central aperture for the dial and integrated lugs. It is mounted on a single-piece brown leather strap secured with a metal pin buckle. The watch runs then stops and needs a crystal. The watch case measures approximately 1 inch across. The total length of the leather strap is approximately 8.5 inches. The item is in as-found condition. The bezel is detached from the main case body (photo 10), and the crystal is missing. The dial shows heavy spotting and discoloration throughout (photo 5). Significant tarnish and green verdigris corrosion are visible on the interior of the bezel (photo 11) and the case edges (photo 10). The metal case shows surface oxidation and wear to the plating (photo 8). The leather strap and housing are dry, cracked, and show heavy wear consistent with age and field use (photo 12). The watch movement is currently non-functional, running briefly before stopping.
