Elgin Sportsman 17 Jewel Manual Wind Wristwatch Reference 6926 - A vintage manual wind wristwatch featuring a base metal bezel and a stainless steel screw-down case back. The champagne-colored dial is printed with the maker name ELGIN above SPORTSMAN and 17 JEWELS above a SWISS mark at the six o'clock position. The dial features stylized Arabic numeral hour markers and a central seconds hand. The manual movement is visible upon removal of the case back and is engraved ELGIN 823, SWISS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, and UNADJUSTED. The interior of the case back is stamped with M.B., ELGIN, NATIONAL WATCH COMPANY, SWISS, and the reference number 6926. The exterior of the case back is stamped with the designations RESISTANT TO SHOCK, STAINLESS STEEL BACK, WATERPROOF, BASE METAL BEZEL, and DUST AND MAGNETISM. The watch is fitted with a distressed brown leather two-piece strap and a gold-tone buckle. The mechanical movement runs then stops. Case Diameter: Approximately 32mm excluding crown. Total Length: Approximately 9 inches. The watch is in heavily worn vintage condition. The dial shows significant tropical aging, heavy foxing, and spotting across the entire surface (photo 2). The acrylic crystal is heavily scratched and scuffed throughout (photo 1). The base metal bezel and lugs show significant plating loss and wear to the underlying metal (photo 3). The crown is heavily worn with visible brassing (photo 6). The leather strap is dry and shows significant cracking and fraying at the edges (photo 4). The movement shows visible oxidation and surface dirt (photo 8). As noted, the movement runs then stops and requires professional servicing.
