Bidspirit auction | Antique .800 Silver Open Face
Antique .800 Silver Open Face Remontoir Pocket Watch with Enamel Floral Dial - This is an open-face pocket watch featuring a manual wind movement. The case is constructed from .800 silver, indicated by a rectangular stamp on the interior case back reading ARGENT 0.800. The case bezels on both the front and back are decorated with a rose gold-toned floral border. The case back is finished with a guilloché engine-turned pattern surrounding a central vacant shield-shaped cartouche. The white enamel dial is decorated with a hand-painted central floral motif in shades of pink, purple, and blue, framed by an outer ring of raised gold-tone scrolls and silver-tone floral accents. The dial features black Arabic numerals and a sub-seconds dial at the six o'clock position. The movement is accessed via a hinged inner dust cover, or cuvette, which bears the cursive engraved inscription Remontoir 10 Rubis. The movement itself is gold-toned with a regulator marked F and S. The interior case back also features a circular mark containing the letters HH over M, along with several hand-scratched jeweler's notations including HOT135U. A serial number, 231510, is stamped on both the interior case back and the dust cover. The watch is equipped with a circular bow at the top. Case diameter: approximately 1.125 inches (29mm). The watch is in fair vintage condition. The silver case shows significant tarnishing and surface wear throughout, particularly to the gold-toned decorative borders (photo 4, 5, 6). The enamel dial remains intact with no visible cracks, though minor surface grime is present (photo 2). The hands exhibit heavy oxidation and rust (photo 2). The winding stem is currently detached from the movement but remains present, secured to the bow with a wire (photo 1, 7). The interior movement shows visible oxidation to the steel components (photo 11). Per user-provided facts, the watch runs.
