Vintage Elgin Ladies Cocktail Wristwatch with Gold Tone Speidel Expansion Bracelet - A vintage ladies cocktail wristwatch featuring a tonneau-shaped case with decorative Art Deco lugs. The off-white dial is printed with black Arabic numerals and a minute track, and is signed ELGIN below the 12 o'clock position. The movement is a manual wind mechanical movement marked ELGIN 541 U-S-A C217459 15 JEWELS. The interior of the case back is stamped with a circular mark reading WADSWORTH BASE METAL CASED AND TIMED BY ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH CO. #144. It also bears several etched and stamped numbers including 3521, 471 AK, 775, and F304975, along with a hand-scratched jeweler mark reading M1679C. The exterior case back is stamped W BASE METAL. The watch is fitted with a gold-tone expansion bracelet. The interior of the links are stamped SPEIDEL and bear several patent numbers: 2,549,410, 2,376,633, and 2,267,967. According to provided information, the watch runs but has a broken band. The watch case measures approximately 16mm wide excluding the crown and 27mm long including the lugs. The total length of the watch and bracelet is approximately 6.5 inches (photo 10). The watch is in heavily used vintage condition. The crystal is heavily scratched and clouded (photo 2). The dial shows significant spotting and discoloration throughout (photo 2). One hand has detached and is loose under the crystal (photo 2). The case and bracelet exhibit significant wear to the gold-tone plating, exposing the base metal beneath (photo 1). Heavy oxidation and green verdigris are present on the interior of the case (photo 6) and the bracelet links (photo 4). The bracelet is noted as broken (photo 4). While reported to run, the watch requires professional restoration due to cosmetic wear and the detached hand.
