Elgin 10K Rolled Gold Plate Bezel Mechanical Wristwatch with Expansion Band - This mechanical wristwatch features a case with a 10K gold plated bezel and a stainless steel back. The square-format dial, which is marked with the Elgin name and a stylized dp logo, includes applied gold-tone Arabic numerals for even hours and arrow-shaped indices for odd hours, alongside a sub-dial for seconds located at the six o'clock position. The movement is a manual wind 17-jewel Elgin caliber 683, which is stamped with the serial number I 744478 and marked as adjusted. The interior case back is stamped with a circular mark reading CASED AND TIMED BY ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH CO. and identifies the case as a product of the Star Watch Case Company with the reference number 6736 and serial number S 277678. A hand-etched jeweler's mark reading M 2086 is also present inside the case. The watch is fitted with a gold-tone expansion band featuring link interiors stamped Speidel U.S.A. and end links stamped USA with a circular GS logo. Case width (excluding crown): approximately 1 inch (25.4mm) Case length (lug to lug): approximately 1 3/8 inches (35mm). The watch is in poor to fair vintage condition. The dial is heavily oxidized with significant mottling and loss of finish across the surface (photo 3). The 10K RGP bezel shows extensive brassing and wear-through of the plating, most notably on the lugs and sharp edges (photo 1). The crystal is missing (photo 4). The movement shows surface grime and oxidation (photo 9). The watch does not run and requires a crystal. The expansion band exhibits dirt accumulation between the links and some stretching (photo 5).
