Bidspirit auction | Admiral Swiss Manual Wind Open
Admiral Swiss Manual Wind Open Face Pocket Watch - A Swiss manual wind open face pocket watch. The silvered two-tone dial features a guilloché engine-turned sunburst center and a white outer chapter ring set with raised gold-tone Arabic numerals. A sub-seconds dial is positioned at the six o'clock mark. The dial is printed with the name Admiral at the center and Swiss at the bottom edge. The case is constructed from gold-filled metal, featuring a case back decorated with an engraved floral and geometric pattern centered by a vacant shield cartouche. The interior of the case back is stamped with the word SUPREME in a stylized arrangement, followed by I.W.C.CO. and the serial number 5471787. This indicates the case was manufactured by the Illinois Watch Case Co. Hand-etched jeweler's service marks, including 89/nw and 541/7D, are visible on the interior of the case back. The manual movement plates are engraved with TACY WATCH CO, ADMIRAL, NON-MAGNETIC, 6 SIX JEWELS, and 2 TWO ADJUST. A regulation scale is present, marked with F S and A R. The watch is confirmed to be in running condition. The case measures approximately 1 3/4 inches (45mm) in diameter. The watch shows visible signs of age and wear. The crystal is detached from the bezel and exhibits a large chip and crack along its edge (photo 10). The dial surface displays oxidation and scattered pitting throughout (photo 2). The gold-filled case shows extensive surface scratching and wear to the gold plating, particularly visible on the high points of the engraved case back and the edges of the bezel (photos 3, 4, and 5). The movement is visible and appears intact, though professional servicing is recommended for vintage mechanical timepieces.
