1925. Fox, Charles Donald. Little Robinson Crusoe. Charles Renard, 1925. (DJ) - A 1925 hardcover photoplay edition of Little Robinson Crusoe, authored by Charles Donald Fox and adapted from the Willard Mack photoplay featuring silent film child star Jackie Coogan. The volume is bound in yellow publisher's cloth with blue stamped lettering on the spine, which also includes the publisher's name RENARD at the foot. The title page bears the full text: LITTLE ROBINSON CRUSOE A New Crusoe Story Featuring JACKIE COOGAN By CHARLES DONALD FOX With 21 Photo-Drawings By LEONARD J. FORD [Publisher's Device] CHARLES RENARD CORPORATION PUBLISHERS NEW YORK CITY 1925. The work is illustrated with pictorial endpapers and 21 full-page monochrome photo-drawings by Leonard J. Ford, which are stylized renderings based on motion picture stills from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production. The book retains its original pictorial dust jacket, which depicts Jackie Coogan on a raft. The verso of the dust jacket features a printed promotional letter from Jackie Coogan addressed to Dear Friends from Hollywood, California. A supplement in the back of the book titled Jackie Coogan's Own Daily Dozen provides illustrated health exercises for children. The book is in good overall condition with clean internal pages and secure binding. The original pictorial dust jacket is in poor condition, exhibiting significant paper loss and large chips at the upper and lower edges of the front panel (photo 1), extensive chipping and loss to the spine affecting the title and author text (photo 3), and large triangular chips missing from the top and bottom right corners of the rear panel (photo 2). Several closed tears and smaller chips are visible along the jacket edges. The jacket is currently protected in a clear plastic sleeve. The yellow cloth binding shows minor shelf wear at the extremities (photo 5). Internal illustrations remain crisp and well-preserved (photos 6-16).
