1995 The Narrative Corpse Oversized Anthology Comic Book - A large format softcover comic anthology titled The Narrative Corpse, subtitled A Chain-Story by 69 Artists! The book was co-published by RAW Books and Gates of Heck, Inc. of Richmond, Virginia. The cover features a complex black and white collage of illustrations by various contributors, partially obscured by a large black semicircular shape with two white circles representing eyes. The front cover is printed with the title in a red rectangular block and lists the editors as Art Spiegelman and R. Sikoryak. The back cover features a list of the 69 participating artists, including notable figures such as Will Eisner, R. Crumb, Matt Groening, and Chris Ware. A red square on the lower left of the back cover contains a black and white logo reading GATES OF A RAW BOOK HECK, INC. and provides the publisher's P.O. Box in Richmond, VA, 23227. The ISBN 0-9638129-4-7 is printed at the bottom of this red block. Internally, the book follows a surrealist exquisite corpse format where each artist contributed three panels to a continuous story featuring a simple stick-figure protagonist. The interior pages are printed in black and white on off-white paper. The copyright page confirms the work was conceived in 1990 and published in 1995. Height: 16 1/2 inches. The comic is in very good used condition. The spine shows minor vertical creasing and light color breaking (photo 1). The front cover exhibits light surface wear and minor rubbing along the edges (photo 1). The bottom right corner of the front cover shows a small blunt fold (photo 1), which corresponds to a similar light blunting on the top right corner of the back cover (photo 2). Interior pages appear clean, bright, and securely attached to the binding with no visible tears or significant stains (photos 5-12).
