1273 Corvey Abbey Ecclesiastical Seal Reproduction in Cast Wax - A cast wax or composition reproduction of a medieval ecclesiastical seal, representing the chapter seal of Corvey Abbey. The circular face features a central figure of Christ in a mandorla, depicted in a blessing gesture and holding a book. He is flanked by two standing figures representing saints under celestial symbols of crescent moons and stars. The outer border contains an inscription in Lombardic script reading S CAPITVLI CORBEIENSIS ECCLIE. The interior field contains two vertical scrolls, which are transcribed in an accompanying note as reading IUSTE IUDICATE and ME MORESTO. The reverse of the cast features a recessed circular aperture containing a typed paper label under a protective mylar dust jacket cover. The label features the characters v e y followed by ter-Kapitel and the date 1273. The right edge of this label also shows partially visible printed text including RISCH & SIEGEL and PVTLINGEN FACH B. A small red rectangular adhesive marker is also present within the recessed area. According to the provided ruler, the seal measures approximately 2 3/4 inches in diameter and has a thickness of approximately 3/4 of an inch. The seal appears in stable condition. The face shows minor surface grime and softening of detail consistent with the casting material (photos 1, 2). The perimeter edge displays minor irregular wear and small nicks (photo 5). The reverse shows an uneven, hand-finished surface texture with some residue from the casting process (photo 4). The internal paper label is intact though slightly yellowed, and the protective mylar cover shows minor surface scratches (photo 4).
