Burroughs, Edgar Rice. 1924 Tarzan and the Golden Lion. Grosset & Dunlap. - An octavo hardcover edition of Tarzan and the Golden Lion by Edgar Rice Burroughs, published by Grosset & Dunlap. The volume is bound in the publisher's red cloth with the title and author's name stamped in black within a rectangular border on the front board and spine. The copyright page carries a single statement reading Copyright, 1924, by Grosset & Dunlap. This printing is part of the Madison Square Books series, as indicated by the branding on the reverse of the pictorial dust jacket. The dust jacket flap includes a promotional text stating the book is complete and unabridged, made possible by printing from the original plates. The front free endpaper bears a handwritten ownership inscription in ink reading Glenn McConnell Oct 21-1944. The volume is housed in a clear Mylar protective cover. A small price sticker is visible on the interior rear flap of the Mylar cover reading 55G 50c GROSSET. The red cloth binding shows bumping and light shelf wear at the spine ends and corners (photo 4 and 5). The interior pages exhibit significant age-toning and tanning throughout, consistent with the pulp-quality paper used for this series (photo 8 and 9). The dust jacket is in poor to fair condition, featuring a large triangular loss at the bottom right corner of the front panel (photo 1), multiple closed tears and chips along the top and bottom edges, and general creasing and rubbing to the extremities (photo 2 and 3). The Mylar cover shows some light scuffing but remains intact (photo 12).
