1937-1946 Trio of Vintage Aviation Magazines Including Flying, Skyways, and Jeunesse Magazine - A trio of vintage aviation-themed softcover magazines dating from the pre-war era through the immediate post-war period. The collection includes one American wartime publication, one American post-war publication, and one French pre-war juvenile periodical. The first magazine is a staple-bound issue of Flying and Popular Aviation, identified on the spine as the Royal Air Force Issue, dated September 1942 (Volume XXXI, No. 3). The front cover features a color photograph of ground crew members servicing a twin-engine aircraft bearing a Royal Air Force roundel. The interior includes a Salon Section of action photography, a portrait of Air Chief Marshal Sir Charles F. A. Portal, and period advertisements for Curtiss Electric Propellers, Republic Aviation, and Wright Aircraft Engines. The second magazine is a staple-bound issue of Skyways, titled the Second Annual Personal Plane Issue, dated April 1946 (Volume 5, Number 4). The cover art depicts a Fairchild F-24 at a desert campsite labeled Bar O Ranch. Interior content features post-war civilian aviation advertisements for the Globe Swift, Piper Cub, and Bell Aircraft Corporation, alongside articles on light planes such as the Spartan Executive 12 and Jarvis VJ-21. The third magazine is a large-format newsprint-style publication titled Jeunesse Magazine, dated 29 Aout 1937 (N° 35, 1re Annee). The front cover illustrates a cutaway of the Imperial Airways flying boat Cassiopee. The French-language interior includes the comic strip Petipon, Vedette Internationale, the adventure novel Jean Rossignol Roi des Mongols by Jacques Cervieres, and a technical diagram for constructing a galena crystal radio receiver. The magazines exhibit varying states of preservation consistent with age and paper quality. The September 1942 Flying issue shows moderate shelf wear, with minor splitting at the head and tail of the spine and light surface scuffing to the cover (photo 17). The April 1946 Skyways issue remains in good condition with vibrant cover colors and minimal edge wear (photo 9). The 1937 Jeunesse Magazine shows the most significant wear due to its newsprint composition; the paper is heavily toned and brittle with small chips and tears along the edges and a central horizontal fold line visible on the cover (photo 2). All magazines appear to be complete based on the visible pagination.
