1948-1950 US Army in Western Germany Souvenir Photograph Booklet - A post-World War II souvenir photograph booklet titled US Army in Western Germany, documenting the early occupation period. The softcover publication features a multi-color illustrated front cover depicting a stylized view of Heidelberg Castle and the Neckar River framed by clouds and foliage. At the center of the cover is a heraldic crest showing a yellow lion rampant on a black shield, topped with a crown and set against a white draped background. A red banner below the illustration contains the hand-lettered title US ARMY in WESTERN GERMANY. The back cover is decorated with a central figure of the jester Perkeo holding a glass of wine and a key, identified by a blue ribbon below reading PERKEO. The figure is flanked by vertical grapevines with purple clusters. The interior consists of heavy paper pages containing printed black-and-white photographs of regional landmarks. The photographs include views of Heidelberg, the Jesuiten church in Mannheim, spring landscapes near Wiesbaden, the ruins of Castle Ehrenfels, medieval architecture in Heilbronn, the Schlossplatz in Stuttgart, the monastery at Maulbronn, and the residence at Kassel. Each location is accompanied by a colorful printed coat of arms corresponding to the city or region. One page features a stylized map of the American Zone of Occupation, highlighting the Rhine, Neckar, Main, Lahn, and Donau rivers along with key military and administrative centers marked with red dots. The final interior page bears a handwritten inscription in blue ink reading E. Tatte / 1948 - 1950. The booklet is in fair to good vintage condition. There is significant moisture staining and damp-staining visible on the upper right corner of the back cover (photo 2), which has caused yellowing and tide lines that extend to the interior pages (photo 4). The paper shows general age-toning and yellowing throughout. The spine exhibits wear and minor splitting at the top and bottom edges (photo 3). The corners and edges of the cover show minor bumping and light creasing (photo 1). The interior photographs and text remains legible despite the localized staining.
