Mid-20th Century Carved and Painted Wood Abstract Relief Panel - A vertical carved wooden relief panel depicting an abstract, stylized figure over a large crescent form. The design is gouged directly into a rectangular plank of wood, exposing vertical tool marks and grain texture within the recessed motifs. The raised flat surface is finished with an opaque red pigment, while the recessed carved sections and the reverse retain faint traces of pale blue-green pigment. The reverse side features four isolated, carved geometric indentations including a semicircle, triangle, and rounded form. No signatures, maker marks, or inscriptions are visible on the panel. Measurements derived from the yardstick visible in the photographs indicate the panel is approximately 16 1/2 inches in height and 7 1/2 inches in width. Dimensions: 16 1/2 inches height x 7 1/2 inches width x 3/4 inch depth. Condition is consistent with age and medium. Minor edge chips and rubbing along the perimeter corners and edges (photos 1, 2, 4). Scattered surface abrasions and spots of minor paint loss to the red finished surface (photo 1). The reverse shows natural wood grain checking, surface drying, and pigment fading (photo 4).
