1971. Shamberg, Michael. Guerrilla Television. Holt, Rinehart and Winston. First Edition (DJ) - A first edition hardbound copy of Guerrilla Television by Michael Shamberg and the Raindance Corporation, published in 1971 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston in New York. The work is a primary document of the 1970s counter-culture video art movement, featuring a distinctive experimental layout designed by the architectural and design collective Ant Farm. The book is bound in black cloth with white lettering on the spine and is accompanied by the original illustrated dust jacket. The interior consists of a collage-style arrangement of typed text, handwritten script, black and white photographs, diagrams, and reproductions of vintage advertisements. The copyright page identifies the work as a First Edition and provides the Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 75-160464, alongside ISBN 0-03-086714-2 for the hardbound state. Notable content includes documentation of the Wipe Cycle video installation by Frank Gillette and Ira Schneider, as well as references to the Radical Software magazine. The dust jacket features high-contrast graphic illustrations including a stylized video camera on the front and a diagram of the United States on the rear. A white printed price flap is present on the dust jacket interior. The dust jacket shows significant shelf wear and age-related distress, including multiple chips and small tears along the top and bottom edges (photo 1). There is a notable area of staining and discoloration on the top edge of the rear panel (photo 2) and significant creasing at the head and tail of the spine (photo 3). The interior of the dust jacket flap shows foxing and toning (photo 11). The black cloth boards remain structurally sound with minor surface rubbing and light bumping to the corners (photo 4). The internal pages appear generally clean with occasional light toning at the margins, consistent with paper stock of the period (photo 8). The binding remains tight and secure.
