Signed Limited Edition No. 5/300 (Signed) - A first edition artist's book titled The Camera Never Lies by Michael Peel, published by Circle Press in 1979. This work is a folio-sized hardcover bound in burgundy leatherette with the title stamped in gold on the front cover, housed in a matching gray cloth-covered clamshell presentation box. The interior consists of conceptual plates featuring various media including photographs, collage elements, and printed handwritten text. One plate depicts a red capital E overlaid on a black-and-white photograph of a telephone receiver, while another shows a plane taking off above a parking structure. Included with the book is a loose color print titled But...... depicting a hand reaching for torn photographic fragments. A limitation page at the rear features printed black text reading THIS IS No. 5. OF A SIGNED LIMITED EDITION OF 300 BOOKS PLUS 30 ARTIST PROOF COPIES AND 5 MARKED H.C. A FURTHER 10 BOOKS ARE RESERVED FOR PRESENTATION. This page bears a signature in black ink reading Michael Peel. The loose print is also numbered 5/300 in pencil and signed Michael Peel. in black ink in the lower margin. The book and accompanying print appear in excellent condition. The burgundy binding shows no visible wear or scuffing (photo 1). The clamshell box is structurally sound with no fraying to the cloth (photo 2). The interior pages are crisp and white with no evidence of foxing, toning, or thumbing (photo 4). The loose print shows a slight curl to the left edge but remains free of creases or tears (photo 3). The signatures and numbering are clear and unfaded.
