20th Century Celtic Style Cast Resin Athlone Crucifixion Plaque - A 20th-century cast resin relief plaque depicting a Celtic crucifixion scene, replicating the iconography of the 8th-century Irish Athlone Crucifixion. The central figure of a robed Christ is flanked by two angels in the upper registers and two figures in the lower registers, traditionally identified as Longinus and Stephaton. The piece is rendered in a Hiberno-Saxon style, characterized by interlaced knotwork, spiral triskeles, and geometric hatching. The surface is finished in a dark charcoal-gray tone with a mottled texture to simulate patinated metal or stone. The reverse side is flat with a porous, pitted texture and contains two circular recesses for wall mounting. A small remnant of a white rectangular adhesive paper label is visible on the upper left side of the back, though no text is legible on it. No maker's marks, signatures, or country of origin marks are present on the object. 8 3/8 x 5 3/8 x 5/8 inches. The plaque is in good overall condition. Light surface dust and white residue are visible in the deeper recessed areas of the carving (photo 1). Minor scuffing and small chips to the resin are present along the outer edges (photo 4). The reverse shows general surface wear and a small piece of paper residue (photo 4). No structural cracks or repairs are observed.
