18th Century and Early 19th Century Dutch Heraldic Wax Seal Specimens - A collection of ten individual heraldic wax seal specimens, each detached from original documents and mounted to paper cards. The specimens are composed of dark red-brown and black wax and feature various armorial crests, monograms, and shields. The collection shows strong Dutch provenance with various surnames and administrative titles inscribed on the mounting cards. One specimen is mounted on a card bearing a purple ink stamp in a rectangular frame reading Coll: C. Verster. 1921. Individual specimens include identifying handwritten notations: A specimen for v. Wilp, Cornis, dated August 24. A specimen for Daey, Emanuel Joh.s, dated 1793. A specimen for Bootsman, Klaas Dirksz, dated 1794. A specimen for Stvesak, Zacheus, dated 1750. A specimen for Egmond v. d. Nijenburg, Jan, dated 1718. A specimen for van Marken, Pieter, dated 1742. A specimen for Jan Boetzelaer, Nicolaas, designated 18e E. (18th Century). A specimen for Bentes, Hillebrand, identifying him as Schepen v. Amsterdam (Alderman of Amsterdam), dated 1707. A specimen for Schoenmaker, Jacobus Johannes, dated 1777. A specimen for Dirk Verrijst, with genealogical or collection reference numbers. The seals are secured to the mounting cards with paper hinges and tabs. Each card includes a protective mylar dust jacket cover. The collection shows a range of conditions characteristic of aged wax. Several seals exhibit significant structural damage, including the van Marken specimen which is fractured into multiple pieces (photo 9) and the Egmond specimen which has a horizontal crack through the center (photo 8). The Bootsman seal is incomplete, missing approximately the upper third of the impression (photo 5). Other specimens show varying degrees of edge chipping, surface dust, and loss of fine detail. The paper mounting cards exhibit age-related toning, corner wear, and some foxing. The mylar covers show light handling wear.
