Late 10th Century Style Cast Resin Relief Plaque of Christ in Majesty, Staatliche Museen Berlin Reproduction - This lot features a cast resin relief plaque depicting Christ in Majesty (Majestas Domini), created as a museum-authorized reproduction by the Staatliche Museen Berlin. The central composition is based on a late 10th-century ivory carving from Trier, Germany. The scene portrays Christ enthroned within a rope-bordered mandorla, his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing and his left hand holding a book of Gospels. He is surrounded by the four Tetramorph symbols representing the Evangelists: the angel (Matthew), the lion (Mark), the ox (Luke), and the eagle (John). Two additional angels flank the central figure. The rectangular plaque features a stylized foliate border. The reverse of the plaque is unfinished with a coarse, textured surface. It contains a circular, recessed brown medallion featuring a centered eagle symbol surrounded by two rings of text. The outer ring reads STIFTUNG PREUSSISCHER KULTURBESITZ and the inner ring reads STAATLICHE MUSEEN BERLIN. Below this medallion, the number 4428 is incised into the casting material. The plaque is fitted with a small metal hanging bracket at the top reverse. 8 3/8 inches x 5 5/8 inches. The plaque is in good condition overall. There is noticeable yellowed discoloration to the resin material on the face, hands, and feet of the central figure (photo 2). The surface exhibits scattered dark pitting and small brown spots throughout the relief and on the reverse (photo 5). There are minor casting irregularities along the edges and some wear to the textured finish on the back (photo 5). No cracks or significant structural losses are visible.
