1997 R. R. Donnelley and Sons Fighting the Flying Circus Lakeside Press Edition - A 1997 hardcover edition of Fighting the Flying Circus by Captain Edward V. Rickenbacker, published as part of The Lakeside Classics series by R. R. Donnelley and Sons Company. The volume is bound in dark brown cloth with a gilt-stamped emblem centered on the front cover. This emblem is a circular seal featuring a profile of a Native American in a headdress, surrounded by the words R·R·DONNELLEY & SONS COMPANY · THE LAKESIDE PRESS ·. The spine is finished with gilt lettering reading Fighting the Flying Circus, Rickenbacker, and THE LAKESIDE PRESS. The interior title page identifies the work as a December 1997 edition edited by W. David Lewis with a foreword by Laurence La Tourette Driggs, printed at The Lakeside Press in Chicago. The publication includes a black-and-white frontispiece portrait of Rickenbacker standing before a biplane, a diagram of aerial maneuvers titled Illustration of aerial maneuvers from the original edition of Fighting the Flying Circus, and several color plates, including a patriotic 1917 illustration titled FORWARD AMERICA!. The cloth binding remains tight and clean. There is a small area of white shelf wear or light scuffing on the mid-section of the spine (photo 3). The interior pages appear crisp, white, and free of markings or creases (photos 4-10). The gilt stamping on the front cover and spine remains bright and complete (photos 1 and 3).
