19th Century Collection of Heraldic Wax Seal Specimen Sheets - A collection of antique heraldic wax seal specimen sheets comprising two paper panels featuring numerous armorial impressions. The seals are executed in red, black, and dark brown sealing wax, arranged in a hand-drawn grid. The impressions showcase a wide variety of European heraldry, including escutcheons, coronets, crests, and supporters with intricate mantling. Each sheet is marked with a handwritten capital B in the upper left corner and the individual positions are numbered in cursive script from 1 to 70. The sheets appear to be a systematic study or inventory of family and aristocratic seals from the 19th century. There are no maker marks, signatures, or printed identifiers visible on the paper or within the wax impressions; the numbering and lettering are handwritten in ink. Each sheet measures approximately 13.5 inches in height. The grid cells for each seal are approximately 1.75 to 2 inches wide. The collection shows significant signs of age and handling consistent with 19th-century ephemera. The paper panels exhibit general toning, light foxing, and visible horizontal fold lines (photo 1). The edges of the paper are frayed and uneven (photo 1). Several seals are missing from their designated positions, specifically numbers 9, 24, 25, 46, 56, 59, and 63, leaving behind circular adhesive residue or surface paper scarring (photos 7, 10, 2, 5). Several remaining seals show physical damage; seal 30 is heavily fractured with multiple cracks and losses (photo 10), and seal 65 is chipped at the top right corner (photo 4).
