1412-1921 Collection of Ten Dutch and European Sigillographic Wax and Lead Seal Specimens - A historical collection of ten individual sigillographic specimens consisting of red, dark grey, and light brown wax and lead seal impressions. Each specimen is individually mounted on a paper or card stock backing with hand-written descriptive annotations in Dutch and Latin. The collection encompasses religious, noble, and administrative motifs, primarily from the Netherlands. The assembly includes: A circular light brown wax impression featuring a lozenge-shaped coat of arms, annotated at the bottom with a purple stamp reading Arm Gen Blz. A circular red wax impression with a crowned coat of arms, bearing a legend that reads COMMISSARIS DER KONINGIN IN FRIESLAND. Hand-written at the top is Commiss. d. Koningin Friesland 1900. A vesica-shaped red wax impression depicting three figures under gothic arches. The card is annotated Vrouwenklooster Kusenmeer gron. and Ice. marie in Kusenmere., along with a purple collector stamp for Coll; Kapt-IHEMANN. A vesica-shaped red wax impression depicting a figure standing before a gridiron, likely St. Lawrence. Annotations read S. capituli eccle beate Laurenci de Tonivilla and Tonivilla. A circular red wax impression showing a monument with figures, annotated 1799. Bat. Rep. Gewapende Burgermacht and Or. Lak Coll. v. d. Muelen. (onduid:). A dark grey circular lead or wax impression with a central coat of arms, annotated 1700 - C 1696 and Fromhout Mr. Willem. A pair of red wax impressions consisting of a primary seal and a smaller counter-seal, showing complex heraldry. Annotated 1784. Johan. de Bruyn Middelb. and A.G.R.-Dl. blz. A circular red wax impression featuring a central avian figure, annotated Ao 1412. van Beyeren Jacoba.? and SIGNET. HELMICI. DE. DORNIC. A dark grey octagonal wax impression featuring an anchor and shield with the readable word AMSTERDAM at the bottom. The card is annotated Raad van Marine. A circular dark grey wax impression featuring a shield with two fish or dolphins. The mount is annotated Schepen Haarlem 1698, Duyst van Voorhout Hendrick, and Or. Zegel akte 1721. The collection is in aged, stable condition. The mounting cards show toning and light foxing consistent with age (photo 1). Several wax impressions exhibit cracking and minor edge losses, most notably the Raad van Marine specimen (photo 10) and the de Bruyn seals (photo 8). The Duyst van Voorhout card features a visible adhesive tape repair at the center (photo 11). The Fromhout specimen appears worn with softened detail (photo 7).
