1951 and Mid-Century Collection of Holiday and Seasonal Greeting Cards with Envelopes - An assortment of paper ephemera consisting of approximately 30 to 40 greeting cards and corresponding envelopes, primarily documenting mid-century American social stationery. The collection focuses on Christmas themes, featuring illustrations of Santa Claus, snowmen, winter landscapes, church architecture, and animals such as rabbits and reindeer. Stylistic elements characteristic of the 1950s are present throughout, including die-cut edges, embossed details, and applied textured glitter. One envelope features a circular black ink postmark reading TRENTON JUN 13 11 AM 1951 N.J. and carries a purple adhesive United States postage stamp printed with 3 CENTS 3 and the profile of George Washington. Personalization is visible on several items. One interior bears the handwritten signature Kay and Lou in black ink. Another card is inscribed in blue ink Effie's friend, Rose Pozzi. A printed card features a sleigh scene with a blue panel reading The Larkins and the names Virginia and Eddie printed below. One card with a rabbit illustration includes the printed verse I've WRAPPED the PRESENTS And TIED the BOWS, Have TRIMMED the TREE And SO IT GOES..... The cards utilize a variety of printing techniques typical of the era, from four-color process illustrations to simpler two-tone graphics. The collection shows signs of age and previous handling consistent with mid-20th-century paper ephemera. A red Santa Claus card has a significant vertical tear extending through the top center of the hat (photo 7). Envelopes exhibit general toning, edge wear, and scattered creasing (photo 2). Occasional soft corners, light foxing, and minor loss to applied glitter materials are visible across the group (photos 9 and 11). One card has a small adhesive or surface abrasion on the snowman's hat (photo 11).
