Maria Laach West German Mounted Icon Plaque of Christus Der Lebensspender - A modern religious icon reproduction plaque featuring the image of Christus der Lebensspender (Christ the Life-Giver). The piece is a printed reproduction mounted on a solid wood-composite board, designed to replicate a 14th-century Byzantine icon. The central figure is depicted in the Pantocrator pose, holding a jeweled Gospel book in his left hand while gesturing in blessing with his right. The printed surface includes artificial distressing, such as faux craquelure and simulated gold leaf loss, to mimic the appearance of the 1394 original located in the Art Gallery of Skopje. The upper registers feature printed Greek abbreviations IC and XC. On the reverse, a yellow rectangular adhesive label is present, containing a stylized church logo above the word LAACH. The text on the label reads: CHRISTUS DER LEBENSSPENDER / 1394. Kunstgalerie Skopje (Jugoslawien) / ars liturgica / Kunstverlag Maria Laach (West-Germany) / Nr. 13095 / Distributed by Printery House, Conception / MO 64433. The reverse also features a pre-drilled circular hanging hole near the top center. The item measures approximately 13 inches in height and 8.5 inches in width. The item is in good overall condition with some visible wear consistent with use and age. There is significant chipping and loss to the printed surface along the bottom edge, most notably at the bottom left and bottom right corners (photo 3 and photo 7). Minor scuffing and small points of surface loss are visible on the black garment of the figure (photo 3). The wooden substrate shows some light edge wear but remains structurally sound. The faux craquelure and distressed gold background are intentional design features and not defects.
