Three Owen Crafts Irish Wrought Turf Items Including a Penal Cross and Two Pins - An assortment of three Irish craft items wrought from compressed turf, also known as bog peat. The collection is centered by a replica of a historical Penal Cross from Lough Derg, County Donegal. The cross features a high-relief carving of the crucified Christ on the front face, accompanied by traditional passion symbols including a ladder, a cock and pot, and celestial emblems representing the sun, moon, and stars. The top of the cross is incised with the characters INRI. The cross is housed in its original retail box and is accompanied by two printed paper informational inserts describing the history of the Penal Cross and the meanings of the various symbols. The collection further includes two relief-carved pins mounted on their original brown cardboard retail cards. The cards are printed with a black logo featuring a stylized A and the name Owen CRAFTS. One rectangular pin is titled celtic WARRIOR and depicts a figure with a spear and shield. The second, circular pin is titled celtic BARD and depicts a figure holding a harp. The text on the cards states the designs were inspired by 10th century stone carving. One card has a smudged area where the name Owen is partially obscured by adhesive residue. The cross measures 8.5 inches in height and 2.25 inches across the arms. Each pin card measures 4.75 inches in height. The items are in good condition. The cross and pins show light surface dust (photo 1). The original box for the cross shows age-related discoloration and light staining to the white foam lining and paper inserts (photo 6, 7). The celtic WARRIOR pin card has a visible smudge and adhesive residue at the bottom where a label was previously removed (photo 4, 10). The cardboard backing cards show minor corner wear.
