Mid-20th-Century Kram-Kastl Madonna and Child Cast Religious Sculpture - A mid-20th-century cast sculpture of the Madonna and Child, produced by Kram-Kastl as a museum-style reproduction of a late Baroque peasant Madonna associated with the Bogenberg pilgrimage site in Lower Bavaria. The figure is cast from a dense material, likely a heavy resin or plaster, and finished with a dark reddish-brown patina to emulate aged terracotta. The Madonna is depicted wearing a tall, textured crown and a heavy cloak intricately decorated with relief-molded floral motifs and a large draped rosary with a pendant cross. The Christ Child is perched on her left arm, also wearing a crown and holding a globus cruciger. The figure stands on an integral rectangular base featuring a central relief-carved winged cherub head within a scrolled frame. The reverse of the piece is flat and finished with a vibrant orange-red pigment, featuring an attached braided gold-tone hanging cord. An adhesive paper label is affixed to the reverse with a decorative black cartouche logo reading Kram-Kastl. Below the logo, the text in German reads Madonna mit Kind followed by a descriptive paragraph: Diese spätbarocken bäuerlichen Muttergottes-Darstellungen waren beliebte Andenken an Wallfahrten in Altbayern und Österreich. Die Original-Tonmodel befindet sich im Heimatmuseum am Bogenberg in Niederbayern, ein bemalter Tonabdruck im Volkskundemuseum Wien. 11.5 x 4.25 x 1.75 inches. The sculpture is in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the cast figure (photos 1, 2, and 4). There is minor surface wear and small losses to the orange-red finish along the sharp edges of the flat reverse (photo 3). The paper label on the reverse shows some light adhesive staining and yellowing consistent with age (photos 3 and 5).
