Late 20th Century Marcus Designs The Castle of Love Medieval Style Cast Relief Wall Plaque - This circular wall plaque by Marcus Designs is a cast composite relief featuring a medieval scene based on the Assault on the Castle of Love motif. The high-relief composition depicts knights in chainmail armor scaling a castle wall with a rope ladder, greeted by ladies and noble figures within the battlements. The upper portion shows a balcony decorated with a repeating trefoil pattern, occupied by a crowned king and several attendants. The sculpture is finished in a metallic gold-toned patina with polychrome accents in red, blue, green, and silver-toned paint. The flat reverse features a wire hanging loop embedded into the cast material. Affixed to the center of the reverse is a gold foil adhesive label. The label depicts a crest to the left featuring a lion passant above a shield containing two crenellated towers. The text to the right reads MARCUS followed by DESIGNS and Hand made in England. Diameter: 10.5 inches. The plaque is in good overall condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. There are small, scattered spots of paint loss and surface chipping on the projecting edges of the castle towers and the highlights of the figures' chainmail and faces (photos 1, 3, and 4). Some dust accumulation is present in the deep recesses of the carving (photo 2). The gold foil label on the reverse shows minor scuffing and wear to the edges (photo 6).
