Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Primary Cover Assembly Part 60606-85B - A cast metal Harley-Davidson motorcycle primary cover assembly designed for Big Twin models equipped with Evolution-era engines. The unit comprises the main outer primary cover, a circular derby cover, and a rectangular inspection cover. The interior of the cast housing bears several raised characters, including 60606-85B, H-D., 380, and a circular foundry mark (photo 8). The interior retains functional mechanical components including a primary chain tensioner assembly with a black nylon shoe and adjustable metal bracket (photos 3, 5), as well as a shifter shaft bushing (photo 6). The exterior is finished in chrome plating over the cast aluminum substrate. This assembly is in used condition with significant cosmetic wear. The exterior chrome-plated finish exhibits widespread pitting and oxidation, which is particularly heavy on the inspection plate and along the lower leading edges of the casting (photos 1, 2). Surface scratches and scuffs are present throughout the exterior faces. Internally, the nylon shoe of the chain tensioner shows signs of wear from operation (photo 5). There is residual oil, road grime, and dirt present on both the interior and exterior surfaces of the piece (photos 3, 7). No structural cracks or breaks were observed in the casting.
