2008 US One Dollar American Silver Eagle with Selective Gold Plating - This 2008 US American Silver Eagle one dollar coin is composed of 1 oz of .999 fine silver. The coin features a Walking Liberty obverse and a heraldic eagle reverse, both of which have been enhanced with aftermarket selective gold plating. The gold-colored plating is applied to the figure of Liberty and the rising sun on the obverse, and to the eagle and the motto ribbons on the reverse. Transcribed obverse inscriptions include LIBERTY along the upper rim, IN GOD WE TRUST in the lower right field, and the date 2008 at the bottom center. Transcribed reverse legends include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA along the top, E PLURIBUS UNUM on the ribbon held in the eagle's beak, and 1 OZ. FINE SILVER-ONE DOLLAR along the bottom rim. The coin is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule and presented in a blue hinged case with a white satin-style lid lining and a blue velvet-style base insert. Diameter across the widest point is approximately 1.5 inches. The coin is in uncirculated condition with mirror-like fields. A small orange-toned spot of surface toning or residue is visible on the gold-plated section of Liberty's gown on the obverse (photo 2). The protective capsule and presentation box show no significant damage or wear.
