1971-S US Eisenhower 40% Silver Proof Dollar in US Mint Packaging - A 1971-S US Eisenhower dollar, struck in 40% silver. This proof specimen is housed in its original hard black plastic presentation holder. The obverse features the Eisenhower portrait type with the S mint mark for San Francisco, and the reverse displays the Apollo 11 mission insignia. The coin is struck with mirrored fields and frosted devices. The plastic holder is impressed with silver-colored script reading Eisenhower at the top, United States and Proof Dollar in the center, and a block of text at the bottom edge reading PACKAGED BY U.S. MINT. The textured black insert features five recessed star motifs around the central coin aperture. The coin remains in uncirculated condition as issued but exhibits significant peripheral amber and gold toning on the obverse and reverse surfaces (photo 2, 4). There is visible white surface haze and milk spotting across the mirrored fields and over portions of the frosted devices (photo 2, 4). The clear plastic exterior of the holder shows light surface scuffing and fine scratches from storage (photo 1, 3). Some minor particulate matter is visible inside the holder.
