1972-S US Eisenhower Proof 40% Silver Dollar - A 1972-S US Eisenhower silver proof dollar, struck at the San Francisco Mint in 40% silver. The coin features the Eisenhower obverse and the Apollo 11 mission insignia reverse. The obverse displays the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1972 with an S mint mark. The reverse displays the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DOLLAR. The specimen is housed in clear plastic original government packaging embossed with the script Eisenhower, United States, and Proof Dollar, with block lettering at the bottom reading PACKAGED BY U.S. MINT. Both faces of the coin exhibit prominent iridescent blue and golden-amber toning. According to the wooden ruler in the photographs, the plastic holder measures approximately 5 1/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches. The coin is in a high-grade proof state, sealed within its original plastic holder. The surfaces exhibit vibrant, multi-colored iridescent toning, most notably electric blue in the centers and gold towards the rims (photos 1 and 2). The clear plastic holder has visible surface scuffing and light scratches (photo 2).
