US 1943 Five Coin Year Set in A Year To Remember Display - A set of five United States coins issued in 1943, presented in a printed cardboard display card titled A Year To Remember... 1943. The set includes a Walking Liberty Half Dollar, a Washington Quarter, and a Mercury Dime, each struck in 90% silver. Also included is a Jefferson nickel struck in a wartime composition of 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese, identified by a large P mint mark on the reverse above the dome of Monticello. Completing the set is a Lincoln Wheat Cent struck in zinc-plated steel to conserve copper for the war effort. The white cardboard display features a printed background of a calendar and newspaper headlines. A gold-toned metal plaque is affixed to the front center bearing the raised date 1943. On the reverse of the packaging, a small gold circular adhesive label in the upper left corner reads Quality Certified 048 (photo 2). All coins are in circulated condition with varying degrees of wear and environmental toning. The Walking Liberty half dollar and Washington quarter exhibit heavy dark toning and surface tarnish on the obverses and reverses (photos 1, 2, 3). The Mercury dime shows moderate circulation wear with light gray toning (photo 3). The Jefferson nickel shows dark surface oxidation and moderate wear (photo 4). The 1943 steel cent has lost its original zinc luster and displays scattered minor oxidation spots (photo 4). The cardboard display card shows minor edge wear and light surface soiling on the white reverse (photo 2).
