Vintage Silver Plated Nickel Silver Vesta Case with Golfer Motif - A vintage rectangular vesta case or match safe constructed from silver plated nickel silver. The front and reverse panels feature a vertical engine turned pattern enclosed by a foliate and floral border. Centrally applied to the front is a rectangular plaque depicting a golfer in early 20th century attire, including knickerbockers and a flat cap, captured mid swing. The case is designed with a hinged lid, a top suspension loop for attachment to a watch chain, and a thumb piece catch. An impressed circular mark is located on the interior catch; the top arc reads SILVER, the bottom arc reads PLATE, and the center contains the letters NS. The interior surfaces show a textured, golden toned finish. Across the widest point, the case measures 1 1/2 inches. The height, excluding the top loop, measures 2 1/4 inches. The vesta case shows significant wear to the silver plated finish across the exterior, notably on the central golfer plaque, high points of the floral borders, and along the edges where the brass toned base metal is exposed (photos 1, 5, and 6). There is surface tarnishing and light scratching throughout consistent with age and use (photos 3 and 7). The hinge and interior catch are functional and secure (photo 4).
