A Pair of Sterling Silver Handled Little Miss Muffet Pattern Child's Flatware Pieces - A juvenile flatware set consisting of a knife and a fork, each featuring hollow handles crafted from sterling silver. The handles are decorated in relief with a nursery rhyme motif depicting Little Miss Muffet seated upon a tuffet, with a spider descending from a web in the upper left corner. The lower portion of the handle is further embellished with a floral sprig. The knife blade and the fork shank and tines are constructed from a non-precious metal. The front of each handle is stamped with the text LITTLE MISS MUFFET in block capital letters. On the lower neck of both handles, the word STERLING is impressed. Above the silver purity mark, there are three small, worn symbols that are not legible as a specific name. No monograms are present. Knife: 6 inches in length Fork: 5.25 inches in length. The set is in fair to good antique condition. The sterling silver handles exhibit surface scratches, minor dings, and some softening of the relief details from past polishing (photos 2 and 4). The non-sterling components show more significant signs of age; the knife blade has extensive dark oxidation, surface scratching, and areas of pitting visible along the length (photos 1 and 6). The fork displays tarnish and a notable dark area of heavy corrosion or plating loss at the junction where the handle meets the shank (photo 1).
