Vintage Sterling Silver and Abalone Shell Floral Openwork Brooch - A vintage sterling silver brooch featuring a large, domed oval abalone shell cabochon. The shell exhibits vibrant pink, green, and blue iridescence with a prominent natural peach-colored eye or blister pearl at the center. The shell is set within a decorative sterling silver frame detailed with repousse floral blossoms and scrolling foliate openwork. The reverse is impressed with the text STERLING, where the final character G is only partially struck. The pin mechanism consists of a straight pin, a simple tube hinge, and a revolving safety catch. Length: Approximately 1.75 inches at the longest point Weight: 0.323 ozt. The brooch is in good vintage condition. There is moderate tarnish and patina across the silver frame and reverse (photo 3 and photo 5). Light surface scuffing and scratches are visible on the silver backplate (photo 3). A horizontal line is visible on the right side of the abalone shell cabochon, consistent with a natural growth fissure or inclusion rather than damage (photo 1). The pin mechanism is fully functional.
