Bidspirit auction | 1884-O US Morgan Silver Dollar
1884-O US Morgan Silver Dollar - A US 90 percent silver Morgan Dollar coin. The obverse is dated 1884. The reverse features a single character mint mark O centered below the wreath and above the denomination, identifying it as a product of the New Orleans Mint. The coin is housed in a white cardboard 2x2 flip with a clear plastic window. The front of the flip bears a handwritten notation in blue ink reading (1884-O). The back of the flip bears a handwritten notation in black ink that is not clearly legible as a specific name or word. The coin exhibits a circulated state with visible wear patterns. Significant smoothing is present on the high points of the design, including Liberty's hair and the cotton bolls on the obverse (photo 1), and the eagle's breast feathers on the reverse (photo 2). Numerous small contact marks, nicks, and fine surface scratches are scattered across both the fields and the relief elements. Darker silver-grey toning and accumulated grime are present in the recessed areas of the design, particularly around the lettering and within the laurel wreath (photo 3).
