US 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar - A US 1883 Morgan silver dollar minted in Philadelphia. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap and a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, surrounded by the Latin legend E PLURIBUS UNUM, thirteen stars, and the date 1883. The reverse depicts a bald eagle clutching an olive branch and three arrows within a laurel wreath, with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, and the motto In God we trust appearing in Gothic script above the eagle's head. The coin is composed of silver-toned metal with a reeded edge and lacks a mint mark. Weight: 0.828 ozt. The coin is in circulated condition. Notable wear is present on the high points of the design, specifically on Liberty’s hair above the ear and the eagle’s breast feathers (photos 1 and 2). Both surfaces exhibit a dull greyish patina and numerous fine contact marks and hairlines (photo 1). The measured weight of 0.828 ozt is recorded as being below the standard US Mint specification of 26.73 grams (photo 3).
